Playdough

• 2 cups flour
• 2 cups water (add food colouring if desired)
• 1 cup salt
• 4 tsp. cream of tartar
• 2 tblsp. oil

Place ingredients in a pot and cook on stove low to medium heat. Stir frequently until it forms one lump with no stickiness. Remove from heat, let cool a bit and then knead well.
Variations: add glitter, edible flavoured extracts, jello powder prior to cooking.

Cooked Finger Paint

Place in a microwaveable bowl the following ingredients and mix well:
• 1 cup flour
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup water

Add:
• 3 cups of boiling water

Cook on high in microwave until thick stirring once or twice. Cooking takes @ 3 minutes depending on the microwave. Finger paint should be very smooth!

When cooled spoon out on finger paint paper and add a drop of paint. Let the children mix it themselves.

Variation: Mix dried flavoured gelatin or jello into finger paint and crate paint and sniff artwork.

Rainbow Stew

Place in freezer bag for squishing.
• 1 cup of cornstarch
•  1/3 cup icing sugar
•  4 cups water

Cook over low heat on stove until mixture thickens. Split into 2 different bags and add primary food colouring. Seal bags with tape. Clear hockey sock or duct tape works best.

Flour Sculptures
•  3 cups flour
•  1 cup salt
•  1 cup water.

Knead until smooth and rubbery. Let the children form sculptures and bake at 275 degrees F on foil lined cookie sheet for 1 hour. When cooled paint with acrylic paint.

Goop #1

Mix:
•  2 cups flour
•  1/2 cup salt
•  1/4 cup sugar

Add slowly to above mixture until you reach desired consistency:
· 1 ½ cup water

Place in squirt bottles. Small plastic honey bottles or bottles from the Body Shop work well.

Goop #2

Mix:
•  4 cups flour
•  1 cup sugar
•  1 cup salt
•  2 cups water

Mix to a cake batter consistency and split into small amounts. Add food colouring and place in small bottles.

No Bake Plasticine Recipie

· 2 1./2 cups flour
• 1 cup salt
•  4 tblsp. vegetable oil
•  1 cup water
•  food colouring or poster paints.

Mix dry ingredients, add oil and stir in. Add water a little at a time and stir until it holds together. Knead for 5 to 10 minutes. Divide dough into several pieces; add colour a little at a time. Knead until each colour is evenly worked in.

White Dough

Mix:
•  1 cup cornstarch
•  2 cups baking soda
•  1 1/4 cup water

Bring to a boil over medium heat in a non-stick pan stirring constantly. Thicken to the consistency of mashed potatoes. Store n fridge until ready to use.

Gluten-Free Playdough

•  1/2 cup rice flour
•  1/2 cup cornstarch
•  1/2 cup salt
•  2 tsp. cream of tarter
•  1 cup water
•  1 tsp. cooking oil
•  food colouring

Combine all ingredients, except food colouring in a medium saucepan. Over low heat cook for three minutes stirring constantly or until mixture forms a ball. Allow the mixture to cool and add in desired food colouring.

Gluten-Free Finger Paint

· 3 tblsp. sugar
•  1/2 cup cornstarch
•  2 cups cold water
•  food colouring

Mix then add water. Cook over low heat stirring until it is well blended. Divide into 4 or 5 containers; add a pinch of dishsoap and food colouring.

Sand and Starch Molding Mixture

· 1 cup sand
•  1/2 cup cornstarch
•  1/2 cup boiling water
•  food colouring

Mix well and cool enough until it can be handled. When structure is completed bake in over for 1 hour at 200 degrees F or bake in sunshine for several days.

Colouring Uncooked Pasta

Mix 3 - 4 tblsp. rubbing alcohol with a dab couple of drops of food colouring. Pour over pasta, let sit for a "short" time and place pasta on a cookie sheet to dry.

Colouring Cooked Spaghetti

Cook up desired amount of spaghetti. Let cool. Mix 3 - 4 tblsp. rubbing alcohol with a couple drops of food colouring. Place the spaghetti in the mixture and let it sit for a while till desired colour. Remove and dry.

Colouring Sand

Methods:
1. Mix tempera powder paint with sand until desired colour.
2. Place sand on cookie sheet and rub chalk over sand.

Colouring String

Dip string into tempera paint powder and rub between fingers.

Colouring Cotton Balls

Place a little bit of tempera powder paint in a bag and drop in some cotton balls. Shake the cotton balls to mix with paint.

Colouring Coffee Filters

Dip corners into thinned tempera paint and let dry.

Easter Egg Dye

•  ½ cup water
•  1 tblsp vinegar
•  food colouring

Mix in small containers, using several different colours. Using spoon, dip eggs into colour. The longer you leave them, the stronger the colour will be. Lay on paper towels to dry.

Homemade Bubbles

Recipie #1:
•  2 litres + 1 cup water
•  1/2 cup of light corn syrup
•  1 cup liquid dish detergent

Mix the water and corn syrup together until completely blended. Gently stir in the liquid dish detergent. This great bubble mixture will store for several weeks in an airtight container. I few drops of food colouring may be added for really colourful bubbles.

Recipie #2:
•  12 cups of cold water
•  1 cup Ultra Ivory Blue Dish detergent (Joy works well also)
•  1/4 tblsp glycerin (optional)

Stir all the ingredients together in a clean bucket. Try to avoid making a froth. If one forms, skim it off with your hand.

Colouring Egg Shells

Mix a few drops of food colouring with 3 tblsp of rubbing alcohol. Place egg shells in liquid and let sit for a while. Lay egg shells out on a paper towel to dry.

Clean Mud

Using a cheese grater grate 6 bars of ivory soap into a large plastic pan. Add 2 gallons of warm water and 6 rolls of toilet paper shredded.

Ooze

Mixture #1:
•  2 cups white glue
•  1 1/2 cups warm water in a separate bowl

Mixture #2:
In another bowl use hands to mix:
•  1/3 cup warm water
•  1 - 3 tsp. borax powder

Combine by drizzling mixture #2 into mixture #1. Ensure you stir the whole time it is mixed. Store tight in a container.

Homemade Chalk

Mix:
•  1/2 cup water
•  3 tblsp. plaster of paris
•  food colouring

Pour into small paper cups and dry for one hour or until hard. Peel off cup and it is ready to use. If you do not have paper cups you can also tape the end of a toilet paper roll. Pour mixture into the top and stand straight up until it becomes hard.

Cloud Dough

Mix:
•  1 cup salad oil
•  6 cups flour
•  1 cup water

Kool-Aid Playdough

•  2 1/2 cup flour
•  1/2 cup salt
•  1 tblsp alum
•  1 pkg kool-aid
•  3 tblsp oil
•  2 cups boiling water

Mix and knead well.
